About the Caregiver Nation Network

The Caregiver Nation Network unites caregiving leaders across 10 states in a shared mission to improve support for family caregivers. The National Alliance for Caregiving fosters collaboration and provides essential tools, including policy and media training, and data-driven insights from our Caregiving in the U.S. project, enabling state partners to champion impactful change for caregivers nationwide.

This collaborative effort aims to:

  • Cultivate and elevate state leaders championing the needs of family caregivers.
  • Foster peer-to-peer learning on caregiving policy issues.
  • Elevate family caregiving issues on state and national policy agendas.

By cultivating state leadership, we are building a movement to change systems to better support family caregivers and those they care for.

Our Funders

This State Network is supported by a consortium of philanthropic funders coordinated by Grantmakers In Aging, including the RRF Foundation for Aging, and the Health Foundation for Western and Central New York. The Network leverages support from The John A. Hartford Foundation and its cornerstone investment in the #ActOnRAISE Campaign, an initiative to drive action on the National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers supported by more than 100 partners.

“As both advocates and caregivers, we understand how important it is to come together to promote awareness, education and tangible supports. Caregiving provides the backbone of our health and long-term care system, but often at a great toll to the many individuals serving in the shadows, struggling and alone. There are 53 million of us and we need to join our voices together.”

– Heather Altman, Executive Director of the North Carolina Serious Illness Coalition and Karen Appert, co-lead of the NC Caregiving Collaborative.

“Caregiving is fulfilling and gratifying, but is stressful in every manner – including emotionally, financially, and physically. Caregivers and our caregiver system in Hawaii are in crisis. The Caregiver Nation Network will be the rock upon which the Hawaii Family Caregiver Coalition continues to build its statewide advocacy for implementing policies and programs in support of Hawaii’s family caregivers and their caregiver recipients, our beloved kupuna and our family members with disabilities.”

– Gary Simon, Hawaii coalition leader and advocate

“Implementing the National Strategy for Family Caregiving will take both small and big actions, from many organizations and people. Collaboration within the state and learning from other states will allow us (in Utah and nationally) to come closer to our vision of creating a world where family caregivers are recognized, valued, supported, and integrated into the healthcare and long-term care systems.”

-Rebecca Utz, PhD., Utah coalition leader and advocate
